The Abbey
Hidden deep away in the forests near the village of Valfleury, the Abbey is protected by powerful arcane magic and modern technology alike - although there are rumours that the modern technology guarding the place is mostly for show in case a very real non-magical burglar arrives. Built especially for the Sisters and having expanded over the past centuries, it is now a safe refuge and a home base for the Sisters to plan, and to rest when the strains of fighting overwhelm them.
The Bridge - Gateway to the Abbey
With the Abbey home to the Sisters and some of the most valuable magic and arcane libraries in the world, very few are privy to the location - and even if it was found, the magic wards only permit those who have been marked accordingly to enter the area. There is only one way in and out of the Abbey that is publicly known - the Bridge, which leads to the front of the forest that hosts the place.
Beautiful and picturesque to those who see it, those who attempt to cross the place without permission very often find themselves being compelled to turn away - a ward that has long been put in place and only strengthened year after year, its secrets unknown to others. |
The Abbey - The Sisters' Treehouse
No matter what the name of the Abbey implies, it is far from the traditional stone-built nunneries that have sprung up all over Europe and several other parts of the country. To begin with, the Sisters do not belong to any other religious order, simply banding together to combat a common threat: the Yarn Fabric and its agents.
Built and nestled amongst the dense forest, the Abbey grew from originally one treehouse sheltered in the forest to its very own tree village, held together and supported by both the marvel of physics and magic alike. Each Abbess and each generation has only expanded the base to suit the needs and the ever-changing threat that the Sisters face each day. As a result, the Abbey is fairly self-contained, with facilities, dormitories, and even a lake in the centre of it all.
No one is quite sure how large the grounds of the Abbey span, but fortunately there are convenient magical teleportation systems in place for both ease of communication and general day-to-day movements. Each building and area is connected by sturdy rope-bridges and pathways from the ground - which can be rather confusing for the new initiates. It's also of no help that there is no map to navigate, so it takes some time to get used to.
