The Village of Valfleury
The closest village to the Abbey and the Priory, Valfleury is a normal every-day village situated in the valley. Quiet and sleepy, it nonetheless contains several noteworthy landmarks that bring in the tourists during summer and autumn.
Established in the 16th century, Valfleury has long been associated with picturesque beauty surrounding it in the valley, the tranquility and the escape from the busy city life, and associated with magic and fairytales. Many come here in search of a relaxing getaway, and couples come to indulge in the romantic atmosphere of the surrounding area. During tourism season, Valfleury can be rather packed as tourists flock in from not only the surrounding cities, but also all over the world. Many vie for the quaint, but high quality hotels in the area, but none are more famous that the Craester Hall, which has played host to several well-known poets and celebrities. It also boasts one of the finest bar-restaurants in the village, and every night there is live jazz and piano music for guests to kick back and relax i n. Of course, that is not all Valfleury is known for. Perched above the village is the Naesbry Castle, once inhabited but now serving as a museum for Valfleury's illustrious history as a hub for arts and culture - especially music. Every February, the village hosts a music festival that attracts many to come listen to indie bands and up-and-coming artists. There is also a market hosted every weekend, where the whole village turns alive. Nearby are several horse-riding and hiking trails - and thanks to the terrain, it's also a very popular hang-gliding location. To reach Valfleury - or to leave the village and head to the large town of Leiler, it is a four-hour train ride away to the station half an hour away from the village. This makes Valfleury a highly convenient place for both tourists and village residents alike: for those who want to come here to escape and rest, and for those who wish to spice up their village life with a little more excitement. |
