Personnel Involved: [DATA EXPUNGED]
Date: [REDACTED]
Location: [REDACTED]
Background: A report was received from the town of ██████ regarding a slew of comatose patients found in the surrounding woods. The victims were known to have purchased a collection of coins from a specialty store, and vanish for a few days, only to re-appear in a remote corner of the forest contorted into ██████, sometimes into ██████ and █████, and with an expression of ██████ on their faces. Their ██████ also appear to have been tattooed with a symbol, later identified to be a sixpence that has been bent out of shape. Attempts to isolate and identify the cause of these contortions have been unsuccessful in the past, and it was only after a child reported seeing a shadowy figure follow one of the unfortunate victims were the Sisters and the Wolves alerted.
Victim(s) Profile:
The victims do not seem to follow any certain profile, being of varied backgrounds, age, and physical appearance. The only thing they have in common is that prior to their disappearance and being found in their contorted - sometimes impossible - states, they have all purchased an old coin that is found in their mouths. Residents of the town have stated that this coin store has not been in the area for long.
Description: The operation commenced on ██ /██ /████ , led by Team ████████. Their original instructions were to investigate the possibility of an Embodiment, or if the situation involves ██████, to immediately locate and notify the █████████ to eliminate the threat.
The store where the coins were normally sold were closed on the day the team arrived, and further investigation and information from the landlord revealed that the proprietor of the store had left two days ago, supposedly to go to the next town to pick up. The landlord, however, did not have the keys to the original store.
Their next location was to the hospital, where the victims were found. The discovery of the bent-sixpence tattoo was made there. A decision was made to stake out and see if any of the victims are afflicted with something additional, as is common with several victims suspected of being attacked by Embodiments.
After two nights of staking out, a Penitent was observed in the vicinity and promptly attacked the stake-out team at the hospital. One of the members were incapitated, and had to be teleported away before the Penitent could drain their life force as well. Chasing the Penitent led back to the specialty store that the coins were sold at, necessitating a break-into the store through other means. After breaking two puzzle locks and having been dropped into ██████, the remaining team entered into the store wherein they were promptly attacked by the landlord. Incapitation revealed ██████ on his body and some Tembu-ka leaving him. He was left to his room to recover.
The store was revealed to have trapped several life forces in vats. A passageway was hidden behind a statue of ██████, and ██████ had to be brought in to unlock the door to the passage. This led to a ruined courtyard, where the team was ambushed by a cat - again bent completely out of shape, as well as a young ghostly woman crawling on all fours, her ██████ bent and presumably ██████. Several Penitents were also found hidden, presumably to serve as guards. Two more team members were incapitated in the process, until ████ dispelled the magic that allowed Penitents to spawn.
The Embodiment was found emptying one of the vats found in the store into a coin-making ██████, and upon discovering attacked the team. More notably, he was able to redirect the ██████ to fire half-minted coins at a lethal speed. During the fight, the Embodiment stepped into the line of fire of the ██████, and was promptly fired upon, resulting in his immediate elimination. The room was evacuated to prevent any members from being afflicted with the Fading.
The Yarn in question was found buried in the coin-making ██████, wherein the team had to fend off another wave of Penitents and a suspected Yarn-Giver to secure it successfully. It has been brought to the Vault where it will be subdued and kept for further study.
